Msgr Alexander Faustine D’Souza (89), Puttur,

Msgr Alexander Faustine D’Souza (89), ex-president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (2001-04) passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Born on May 29, 1926, he was ordained as a priest on March 25, 1952.

He served at Bendur and Urwa churches as assistant parish priest.

He was in Rome during 1955-58 and later on appointed as the Diocesan Director, Catholic Youth Movement.

He was the director of Council of Women during 1942.

He served as the Editor of Raknno from 1961-1973 and as a parish priest at Bendur, Rosario Cathedral, Milagres, Valencia and Vamanjoor churches.

He was the Vicar General of Mangalore diocese in 1972, director of Fr Mullers Hospital from 1988-’91.

Popularly known as Achu Padryab, he was residing at the Senior Priest's home in Mangalore since May, 2005.

Mortal remains will be kept for public homage from 8.00 am onwards on Monday, August 24 followed by Mass and final rites at 9.30 am, burial at Valencia Priests Cemetery.

Dear Edith & Clitus, and the entire bereaved family,

We are deeply touched by the death of Msgr Alexander, whom we have known for more than 4 decades and we always admired him for his zeal for the Catholic faith, his intellectual robustness, his courage, and his love of the Church. He was an inspirational leader, admired theologian, and accomplished writer & preacher who devoted his life to the service of the Almighty and to the betterment of our world. He was also a dear friend to all of us and we have treasured the good memories of his visit to Eppelheim, Germany, and also his wise counsel and guidance.

Please let his family know that we share their sorrow and that his name, his teachings, and his smile will not be forgotten. Please accept our heartfelt condolences, together with our continued remembrance of him in our prayers. May his soul find eternal rest in the arms of our Lord Jesus.

Sorry to hear the demise of Monsignor Alexander who is known to us very closely from the time he was a Seminarian at Jeppoo and then finally the Parish Priest of Valencia Church. Mnsgr. Alexander was in the same batch of Seminarians along with late Bishop Albert D'Souza. They both were great buddies in Mangalore.

I remember when Bishop Albert was alive, Valencia Church celebrated 60th Birthday with a grand Parish participation. I have a video somewhere in my collections and I would like to donate this video to Valencia Church one of these years as a memento.

Monsignor Alexander has been a great leader and organizer. His dedication towards Valencia Parish will be long remembered.

Thank you, Mnsgr. Alexander for all your dedication to Mangalore Diocese, particularly the Valencia Church where you will remain rested with all of us.
