Fr Walter Crasto (60), missionary in Jamshedpur Diocese, son of the late Cyprian and the late Mary Crasto, passed away on November 26, 2014.

Mortal remains will be brought to Immaculate Conception Church, Mulki on Saturday, November 29 at 7.30 am. Mass at 8.00 am. Body will be kept for Public viewing till 10.00 am.

Funeral will be held in Jamshedpur. Date will be announced later.

Dear Harry and Sr Rita, please accept my condolences. Even as I am trying to come to terms with Walty's passing I know that I must accept it is God's will.

Growing up in Mulki, Walty was my closest friend in school and right through high-school. We only reconnected after 35 years, in Toronto. I learned then about his missionary work with the leprosy-affected in Dhanbad. I subsequently visited Dhanbad and had a first hand glimpse of his work there. As director of Damien Social Welfare Center he had won the hearts and minds of those he served among the leprosy-colonies. He was instrumental in bringing about tremendous change in their attitudes and condition and empowering them in the process.He was dedicated, tough, kind and compassionate. Through it all he always remained humble. The many lives he so profoundly affected during his time in Dhanbad will continue to bear testimony to him and his work while he was here among us. He's now been called to his well earned rest. Peace.

Too sad to loose a young dynamic priest, I remember Fr. Walter above all, for his humanity, a great missionary, love for the poor and the lepers. He was very much involved with development work in Dhanbad, and I was deeply touched by his zeal as missionary when I last visited him. He was someone who could easily go beyond linguistic-ethnic barriers when it came to relating with people. May the Lord grant him the reward for all his good work and may He rest in peace.
