Joachim ‘Joe’ L Saldanha (75),  was born on February 27, 1939 in Valencia, Mangalore, India to the late Abundius F and the late Mary R (nee Barboza,) and passed away peacefully on April 3, 2014 in Elk Grove Village with his loving family by his side.

Joe was a fun loving person; he was always smiling and loved dancing. He was proud to have served in the Indian Navy for 15 years. Appointed as Chief Engineer of the aircraft carrier Vikrant, he was one of two people selected by the government of India to escort the vessel upon its construction from the shipyards in Scotland to India.

Joe was the adoring husband of 39 years to Lizzie (nee D’Souza); loving father of Jason (Robin) and Steven; fond grandfather of Jacob; dear brother of the late John (Terry), Jane (the late Ryan) D’Souza, Genevieve (the late Albert) Mathias, John (Pam), James (Rita), Marian (Fammie); Brothers-in-law  the late Walter (Alice), John (Cecilia), Stan (Juliana), and Sister-in-law Jessie (Stany) and dear uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
