Fr Benedict Swaminathan SJ (50), with 28 years of life as a Jesuit of the Karnataka Province, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 5.45 am. He had met with an accident.

The final rites will be conducted in Mount Saint Joseph, Bangalore at 3.00 pm on Wednesday, August 7.

Very sad to hear the untimely departure of Benny- He was my novitiate companion - we were sent on our mission experiment to Bathalagundu- I always enjoyed his childlike nature, deep sensitivity to human suffering and the strong faith he had to go through any suffering. After leaving the novitiate many times we met and at last in Delhi - Always when we met he was to inquire about the Sri Lankan Tamil problem and the suffering of our people- Dearest Benny intercede for us from heaven to be true faithful disciples of Jesus- Till we meet again.......

This comes to me as a rude shock. Benny was my Jesuit Novitiate companion.Came from a humble background and lived a very simple life. A warm and affectionate person. The Karnataka Jesuits have lost a good priest. My heartfelt condolences to the Provincial and all members of the Karnataka Province. Heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of Fr Benny. Rest in peace my friend.
