Fr Mongol Kumar Das SJ (81), passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at St Xavier’s College, Kolkata.
Funeral Mass at 11.00 am on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 and will be interned thereafter.
The younger of the only two sons, Fr Mongol was born on December 5, 1931 to the late Peter & Benny D’Souza, from Mundan, Bejai, Mangalore. He is the uncle of Canute / Marie D’Souza, Mumbai, Cletus / Jessy D’Souza, and granduncle of Shereen & Colin, residing at Bejai Mangalore.
Upon graduating in B.Sc from St Aloysius College, Mangalore, he joined priesthood. After completing priestly studies at De Nobili College, Pune, he was ordained a priest on March 24, 1965. Soon thereafter, wanting to be a missionary, he opted to work among the tribe of Santals in West Bengal. When he could no longer carry on due to his deteriorating health, he was called back from active duty in early 2000 and was stationed at St Xavier’s College Kolkata, still unfailing to render whatever service he could without showing signs of any ailment or resentment to whoever called upon him.
