Bovikan Manohar Nayak, son of Vatsala and late Bovikan Vaman Nayak, aged 50 years, passed away this morning at 6:25 a.m. at KMC Hospital, Attavar. He had been undergoing treatment for gastro-esophageal cancer for the last 10 months.

Born on 15th May 1962, he is an alumni of St. Aloysius High School and College. After the untimely demise of his father in 1978, he discontinued his studies to devote his attention to running his family business Nayaks Automobiles at Felix Pai Bazar. Later he ventured in advertising business through his own venture ‘Agade Business Solutions’.

After he was diagnosed for adeno carcinoma of gastro-esophageal junction in last March, he was admitted to Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre at Narayan Hridayalaya, Bangalore for treatment and surgery. However as the cancer was at an advanced stage, the illness relapsed soon after the surgery and took a turn for the worse in the last week. He was a popular Aloysian and had organized a reunion of his classmates two years back and all his friends and classmates rallied behind him in his battle against cancer.

He has in the past served as an office bearer DK Automobile & Tyre Dealers Association, Rotary Club Mangalore and Mangalore Toastmasters Club. He was also briefly associated with Mangalore Today English Monthly magazine.

He is survived by his wife Chadravathi, mother Vatsala, brother Mahesh Nayak, sisters Roopa Shanbhag, Rekha Vijaykumar, brother-in-law Vijaykumar Karai and nephews Prithviraj and Parikshet.

Body will placed at his residence at Hill Dale Manor Apartments, Lady Hill, Mangalore for final respects from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by funeral at Boloor Crematorium.

My last meeting with Manohar was on 30th Dec. 2011. He had the courtesy to come down all the way from his apartment to receive me. I was in his apartment for almost 45 minutes. Despite my telling him not to come down, he came to see me off till my car and give me a wonderful hug with his normal smile which he carried all his life. Manohar, I will miss you especially your wonderful smile. You will remain in my heart forever. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Manohar, I vividly recall our meeting near Krishna Vilas hotel, after I think, 30 years. I often have difficulty recalling the names of friends made latterly but I was pleasantly surprised when we recognized each other instantaneously despite the long lapse of time. I was sure you would recover when I last met you in hospital. So sad that such a fine life has been cut short in its prime. May your soul rest in peace and may your near ones have the strength to quickly get over their bereavement.

I had met Mahanor Nayak at a Toastmasters' meeting in Mangalore. I was fascinated by his simple philosophy of life. Really sad to hear that he lost the battle to cancer. May God give his family the strength to bear this loss and may his soul rest in peace.
