Joseph David Mathias (62), (Retd. PT Teacher, St Mary’s Kannada Medium High School, Udupi), son of the late Anthony Mathias and the late Juliana Mathias, husband of Jacintha Pramila Mendonca, father of Jane Claudia Mathias and Anisha Clea Mathias, brother of Sr Helen Mathias, John Mathias, the late Reginald Mathias, Ida Cornelio, Benedicta Noronha and Regina D'Silva, passed away on July 22, 2023.

Funeral cortège leaves residence at Kuthyar for Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva Manchakal on Sunday, July 23 at 3:30 pm. Funeral Mass at 4:00 pm.

David Sir is the name etched in the hearts of countless aspirants since the 90’s. He was very disciplined man but a fun loving person with a beautiful soul… David Sir was a person seen in Ajjarkad from the early 90’s when there was hardly any facility nor a stadium in udupi… He without fail would be present in Ajjarkad through a bus/ scooter by 6:15AM for years together in order to train every child who was Intrested either in Athletics/ Team Games like Volley Ball, Cricket etc. irrespective of which school one goes… David Sir was a true sports lover and never accepted any sort of monetary benefit from any of his students; instead many of them have witnessed him shell out for the ones who couldn’t meet ends to be a part of sports. Me along with my sisters Shirley Crescent, Sonia D Souza & Cleyaa D'souza are the fortunate ones to be trained during our early schooling days @ St. Cecily’s though he was a PE at St. Mary’s. He has trained and ensured students outperformed even at National Level events. His efforts enabled me to secure twin Gold Medals at National School Games & many more National Medals in Amateur Athletic Meets… Like me countless students have been trained over years from various schools without any sort of discrimination and now reached great heights in the walk of life… It’s sad to know about his untimely demise and wholeheartedly extending our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family… David Sir you presence will be truly missed; but you’ve truly been a light/ ray of hope to many… Rest in Peace dear David Sir…
