Fr Stany D’Cunha (73), Karwar Diocese, son of the late Denis and Mary D’Cunha (Gurpur, Kinnikambla), brother of Fr Paul D’Cunha (Shimoga Diocese), the late Nathalia Mascarenhas, the late Pauline, Sr Ellen Bethany, Francis D’Cunha (HM, Padua High school) and Andrew L D’Cunha (Konkani Poet and Writer), passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 (St Vianney Day)

Fr Stany D'Cunha was ordained as a Capuchin priest and later joined Karwar diocese. He served as the Parish Priest at Honnawar, Sirsi, Mallapur, Madanagiri, Shirwad and Bhatkal parishes of Karwar diocese.

He was a social worker and a Konkani writer. He has penned more than 300 articles and published 4 konkani books ie. Sobhith Sundar Phul, Misanv Mhojem Besanv Tujem, Tumch Mhaka Zai and Jinnie Dirvem.

Funeral will be held at the Cathedral in Karwar on Wednesday, August 7, at 3:00 pm

My heartfelt sympathies to his family members, especially to Francis and Andrew. I pray eternal rest to his soul.
I was in my high school days when Fr. Stany was a seminarian at Kotagiri and used to write using pen name-S. D'Cunha, Kotagiri. I had letter correspondence with him. We were so close in those days, I sent my very first short story 'Vhadlem Fest' to him for correction. He corrected it and advised me to send to Sevak monthly. It was published. Konknai Sahitya Academy published the anthology of my short stories 'Vhadlem Fest' where the same short story is the first story. He was a kind human being, a loving parish priest. Had helped so many poor parishioners where he was serving.
A true follower of Christ.
